“Casting with music=earworm.”
Welcome to Pencilled Casting, my pride and joy! I'm Kulan Ganes, a human-loving, DIY-obsessed, whiskey-drinking dreamer who took a leap of faith and founded this fabulous casting and cast coordinating company five years ago.
Pencilled Casting and I are inseparable—one is just an extension of the other. We (When I say we I just mean me!) operate as a casting director for studios and cast coordinator for sets, across Namibia and South Africa, bringing a touch of whimsicalness to all my projects.
In all casting methods I enjoy and prefer street casting! Streets casted talent are just more authentic and relatable and thats what sells! Relatability!
I've had the pleasure of working with some fantastic casting agencies, including a significant stint with Disco Casting. But nothing bring me as much joy as independently casting for amazing companies like Lampost, Her Films, and TinToy Films under the Pencilled Casting banner. I've also had the pleasure of cast coordinating for production houses like Monkey Films, FilmZAR, Your Girlfriend, Her Films, Namib Films, Darling Films, and Inchiology Studios.
I also know my way around IPAs & PAICs.
Let’s do your casting, if its street casting even better!
About me
“The Set up.”
Who - Kulan
“Always with a smile.”
I hail from the lively streets of Katutura, a vibrant location in Windhoek, Namibia. I'm a celebrated (or so I'd like to believe, despite still constantly learning) casting director and cast coordinator known for my enigmatic energy.
I've been in the film industry since 2006 after my studies. My career began in Namibia, as a Make-Up Artist where I had the pleasure of working on some incredible projects, with the award-winning Mad Max: Fury Road and Red Sea Diving Resort being some of the highlights.
Pencilled Casting was born from a leap of faith. Encouraged by others who believed that my personality was worthy of a career as a casting director/cast coordinator. And so, I thought, "Why not?" Five years later, here I am, living and working towards sharing that gift with South Africa.
How - My approach
I thrive on unveiling the depths of the human spirit and capabilities, and helping cast members become a version of themselves they never thought possible; even if it's just pretence.
My whimsical approach to casting brings a fairy godmother-like support to the cast and production, both in the studio and on set. I play an honest buffer between cast, agents, and production producers.
I enjoy in-studio casting, but there is just something about STREET CASTING! Finding hidden gems from all walks of life - with no training - and watching them transform into a character with your very own eyes. Nothing quite like that!
I enjoy and welcome all challenges, so bring on those “intimate” casting budgets!

Speaking to unWrap.online recently, founder Kulan Ganes says that the whole idea of setting up the casting agency was premeditated.
